. OUR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM
Volunteer Services provide supplementary service to our residents in the areas of personal care, activities of daily living, individual attention/assistance, recreational services and general home improvement.

The volunteers enhance, services rendered by professional and paid staff. Volunteers are given the opportunity to use their own talents and skills to benefit the residents of the Nursing home and Rest home.

PLACEMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Visiting
Purpose: To provide social contact, read, write letters, assistance for walks, etc.
Commitment: Flexible times weekly

Leisure Activities
Purpose: To provide assistance with resident recreational programs, such as baking, crafts, gardening, manicures, games, special events, and outings.
Commitment: Flexible days & times as per monthly calendar

Cafe/Tuck Shop

Purpose: To provide residents with the opportunity to purchase snack items, stamps, cards and personal care items.
Commitment: Up to 3 times weekly

Palliative Care

Purpose: To provide comfort and support to our residents and their families.
Commitment: As needed
*Palliative Care Training preferred. Courses may be arranged through Vision.

Portering

Purpose: To assist physically impaired residents to and from activities.
Commitment: Half hour prior, during and following a planned event.

Library

Purpose: To provide reading material from a portable cart.
Commitment: One 2hr. shift/week, morning or afternoon

Feeding

Purpose: To provide extra help in the dining room to residents who need a little extra care.
Commitment: Meal times (8:00am, noon, or 5:00pm) daily

Reading Program

Purpose: To read to residents who have requested this service.
Commitment: One shift weekly

Drivers

Purpose: To provide transport and support to our residents for Dr. and other appointments.
Commitment: On-call basis


GETTING STARTED
Potential volunteers participate in an interview with the Volunteer Services Coordinator and are given a tour of the home. After the screening process is complete, the volunteer is matched with the activity that reflects their interests, strengths, and desires.

PLACEMENT & TRAINING
Volunteers are placed in positions that are mutually agreed upon. Time, availablity, current openings, and the volunteer's interests are key factors in determining a suitable and beneficial placement. Specific training & orientation is conducted by staff members. Police checks are required.
